A Church for Halifax

Northern Lights Church is a church in Halifax, Todmorden and Brighouse, West Yorkshire.  It is a collection of people who want to share what Jesus has done in their lives and build a community who do the Christian life together.

The bible says, “if we live in the light, as God does, we share in life with each other.”  That is where the name Northern Lights Church comes from.  Our church will be a group of people who live in God’s light and have the great joy of sharing that life with each other.  We are called to build communities that will light up the north of England.
We are a contemporary church – you won’t find hymns, people up the front in strange clothes, and other ancient traditions.  You will find modern music, smiling people, casual clothes, and a warm atmosphere.

Church Leadership

The church is led by John and Catherine Warren.  John and Catherine have relocated from Melbourne, Australia to start Northern Lights Church.  They have no prior connection to Yorkshire – they simply felt God was calling them to Halifax.  However they then discovered that they both had numerous ancestors from Yorkshire, including some from Northowram.  They have one daughter, Poppy, aged 10.  John and Catherine have been sent out by their church in Melbourne, Manningham Christian Centre. photo Catherine & JohnJohn and Catherine Warren, Pastors

John and Catherine have been married since 1999.  They have both been Christians for over 25 years and both attended bible college in the early 1990’s.  They have served in a wide variety of leadership roles in various churches in Sydney, Vancouver and mostly Melbourne.  In June 2012 they felt called by God to start a new church in the UK.  A year later they arrived in the UK and Northern Lights Church started Sunday services in February 2014.

What we believe

We believe the same things that the vast majority of Christians have believed for the last 2,000 years.  In other words we believe that Jesus Christ is God with skin on.  His death and rising set us free from sin and death, and it is our privilege to live our lives in service of Him.

We are a Pentecostal church, which means that we believe that miracles happen in the 21st century.  We believe that God speaks today, that God heals today, that God is actively involved in people’s lives, drawing them to him.  A full statement of our beliefs can be found here.

Our denomination

Northern Lights Church is a part of the CRC Churches International , and is the first CRC church to be planted in the UK.
The CRC (Christian Revival Crusade) was started in Adelaide, Australia in 1945.  It is now comprised of several hundred churches throughout the world, mostly in Australia and the South Pacific.  The CRC aims to have a presence in every nation by its centenary in 2045.  In April 2017 the second CRC church in the UK was planted – The Rock CRC in Shooters Hill, South East London.
